Philosophy and Approach

I believe that therapy should be interactive and collaborative, with a focus on helping individuals achieve their personal goals and create the life they want. My approach is centered around challenging clients with compassion, providing a safe and supportive space where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment or shame.

To achieve these goals, I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Carl Rogers, DBT, CBT, EMDR and Attachment theory, as well as additional techniques that combine creative expression with talk therapy. By using a range of evidence-based techniques and interventions, I tailor my approach to the unique needs and goals of each individual client.

One of the key components of my overall approach is the use of Mindfulness Skills. Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for those struggling with issues such as assertiveness, conflict resolution, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. By helping clients develop greater self-awareness and emotional regulation skills, they can learn to navigate difficult emotions and situations with greater ease and confidence.

Overall, my approach is holistic and integrative, focused on helping clients achieve greater self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth. I believe that with the right support and guidance, every individual has the potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, and I am committed to helping my clients achieve that goal.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and is backed by 30+ years of randomised studies.
How it works – step by step
History & Plan: We map the exact memories that still trigger you today.
Preparation: You learn quick calming tools (like a mental safe-room).
Assessment: You rate the memory’s distress (0–10) and note the negative belief it left (“I’m powerless”).
Desensitisation: You hold the memory lightly in mind for 20–30 seconds while your eyes track my fingers side-to-side (or you feel hand taps or hear tones). This bilateral stimulation mimics the brain’s natural REM-sleep processing.
Installation: We lock in a new belief (“I’m safe now”).
Body Scan: We clear any leftover tension stored in your nervous system.
Closure: You leave calm, with take-home tools.
Re-evaluation: Next session we check the memory is still at 0.
Result: The memory stays in long-term storage, but the emotional charge drops to zero, 1 or that which is environmentally appropriate.

Why I Pivoted My Career

My 25-year career in education gave me a profound understanding of the importance of community and working with groups of people. While education is essential, I believe that cultivating self-awareness, navigating relationships, and developing effective communication skills are equally vital for achieving the most positive and productive outcomes in life.

This belief led me to embark on a new journey and follow my passion by completing a Masters in Psychology at BPP University in the UK and a BPsych Equivalent at SACAP. Since then, I have focused my work on helping individuals and adolescents navigate life’s challenges and build healthy relationships with themselves and others.

I am passionate about the fundamental need for healthy relationships and believe that this is where I can have the greatest impact. Through my work, I strive to provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to develop the skills they need to thrive in all areas of their lives.

If you are struggling with personal challenges or seeking to improve your relationships, I am here to help you on your journey towards greater self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth. Let’s work together to create positive change and build the fulfilling life you deserve.
